Marketing and the $1Million ladder

I have been to many meetings with marketing gurus over the last few weeks but I have recently been to a "Webinar", I am not sure if you have ever been involved in one of these and on the basis that you haven't (apologies to all webinar pros) I will tell you how it went.
I was invited to the webinar by a marketing company and duly accepted especially as it was a free webinar and believe me there is not much free where marketing is concerned, I was told that the whole thing would be conducted over the web via web cam and that I would have the opportunity to ask questions and talk to the lecturers etc.

This in it's self posed the first question "What to wear?", usually I sit in my office, as I am sure most people do, in jeans and a top but here I was about to be involved in a "Webinar" involving On-line Poker companies from all over the world, their legal teams and speakers with experience in Federal Law and Gaming Law etc, so I didn't want to be the one sat in a Darth Vader Tee shirt in an office that looks a bit like a rubbish tip, so I began the clean up.
I checked the view on the web cam and cleared the area behind my desk that would be in the shot, this involved moving a filing cabinet and various box files, books, printers and my prized possession, my golf clubs!, I then cleared the stack of chips from my desk that I play with when I need inspiration as well as the KFC wrapper from the days earlier twister meal. So with my office rearranged and sporting a crisply ironed shirt I sat in front of my PC ready for the webinar to begin confident in the fact that I would not embarrass myself or the company, I logged on and soon after a voice said,
"We will be starting in 3 minutes"
With anticipation I waited three long minutes and then finally it began, I was eager to see what my competitors actually looked like in the flesh and weather I would recognise anybody but to my dismay the screen was filled with bullet points and text, this carried on throughout the whole two hours of "webinar" where i was pretty much boared stupid by a monotone voice that really didn't tell me anything that I didn't already know.
I think that the lesson to be learnt here is that there is nothing to do with marketing that is free and who cares about the Darth Vader Tee shirt any way, it is pretty cool after all.
So back to work and things seem to be moving all the time, we are currently running an "invite a friend" promotion that's worth $100, $50 for you and $50 for your Friend. We are also running tournaments every hour with free rolls and sit and go's, Grab a Grand as well as a massive $1Million ladder, This series is composed of 9 steps ultimately culminating in a unbelievable $1 Million prize pool, It does beg the question what would you do with $1Million, well my advise would be not to tell anybody in marketing that you have it!.
